The posh holiday resort of Gstaad (1,050 m above sea level) belongs to the municipality of Saanen and is the touristic capital of the Saanenland. Compared to sophisticated localities like Zermatt or Sankt Moritz, they appreciate the tranquility of the chalet village without any autograph hunters. There are numerous exclusive shops, restaurants and hotels along the boardwalk in the car-free village center. All houses are built in chalet style, which gives the village its special attraction.
